Ron Schara ~ America's Premiere Storyteller
Telling stories about the outdoors, meeting people who appreciate the wonders of nature...This has been the experience of Ron Schara for more than 30 years. His writings and observations capture the essence of the natureal world. As his newspaper popularity grew in the Midwest, Ron began painting pictures with both words and video to share his love for the outdoors.
Now in its 13th year, Ron Schara's award-winning television show Minnesota Bound airs on KARE-11 in the Twin Cities market as well as the Duluth, Rochester and Fargo markets. His Labrador retreiver, Raven, is the star of the show.
Critis regard Ron as America's premiere outdoor storyteller. Such praise has earned him a national following. Versus television's weekend morning line-up features his show Backroads with Ron and Raven.
Ron also hosts another show on Versus Television called Pheasants Forever. The show, in its second year, appeals to outdoor enthusiasts by focusing on pheasant hunting, habitat restoration and conservation efforts.
Ron's The Outdoor Beat brings outdoor personalities, wildlife issues and adrenaline-pumping adventures to ESPN2. He is the voice of Rocky's Geared Up on the outdoor channel, and a regular guest on Due North Outdoors airing in the Upper Midwest on the Fox Sports Network.
You can catch Ron's Saturday morning radio show on WCCO (830 AM) at 5:30. Also listen to Ron on WCCO's "Live Outdoors" on Monday nights from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m.
As an award-winning outdoor columnist for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Ron spent years telling his tales. He majored in both journalism and fish and wildlife biology. Now, through television, newspaper and radio success, Ron has become a vital resource and champion for outdoor issues.
Fishing Hall of Fame Inducts Ron Schara
The National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame announces the induction of Ron Schara. Ron Schara received the award on July 14, 2007 at the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wis.
Schara qualified for the award through his work in television, radio and print media. But it’s his outgoing personality that sets him apart.
“One thing that stands out about Ron Schara is his endless energy on behalf of sport fishermen,” said Bill Gautsche, Chairman of the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Award Committee.
“Ron Schara is an outstanding spokesman who always works to promote the sport at the highest level, yet remains very down to earth and personable,” Gautsche said. “He is a friend to many, many people in the fishing world.”
Schara, known for his way with words and soft-spoken delivery, said the award carries extra meaning because it highlights a pastime he embraces. “To be in the company of so many anglers I admire is flattering,” Schara said. “I’m honored because this is quite a catch.”
His classic closing line underscores his mission: “Introduce a kid to the great outdoors.”
